The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is finally ready to celebrate the 95th Academy Awards. Academy CEO Bill Kramer revealed that the 95th Academy Awards had the highest voter turnout in Oscar history thus far, making this latest wave of Oscar winners another one for the books. This year, A24 and Netflix lead the Oscar wins with Everything Everywhere All at Once and All Quiet on the Western Front winning 7 and 4 awards respectively. A24, specifically, made history as the first studio to win in every major category (minus Adapted Screenplay) in one year.
Everything Everywhere All at Once set a number of notable records at the Oscars. It became the top spelfilm in Oscar history to win the most above-the-line awards: Best Picture, Best Actress for Michelle Yeoh, Best Supporting Actor for Ke Huy Quan, Best Supporting Actress for Jamie Lee Curtis, and Best Director and Original Screenplay for the Daniels. It was followed closely behind by All Quiet on the Western Front, a World War I epic, and The Banshees of Inisherin, a darkly comic look at friendship that unfolds against the backdrop of the Irish civil war, both of which scored nine nominations. All three films will vie for best picture, in what is shaping up to be a much more commercially-successful collection of honorees than recent years. The best picture race contains the two highest-grossing films of the year, Avatar: The Way of Water and Top Gun: Maverick, along with Elvis, a musical biopic that scored with audiences last summer. Other contenders include Steven Spielbergs semi-autobiographical The Fabelmans;Tár, a drama about an abusive conductor; Women Talking, a look at the residents of a repressive religious community; and Triangle of Sadness, a send-up
