The tell-tale signs of deer hunting season are showing up all around us: the days are getting shorter and the nights cooler, faint splashes of color are beginning to dot neighborhood trees, and soon the smokey smells of lit fireplaces will fill the evening air, as hunters prepare venison stew with the remaining strips of last year's harvest, and get ready to fill the freezer with the bounty from this season's annual rite of autumn.
Such scenes are not just reserved for rural America. In fact, the areas in and around Ashburn and Loudoun County are rich in hunting heritage, and provide some amazing deer hunting opportunities. But, as the county's population continues to grow and urban sprawl chews up more of the once rural landscape, the intermingling of man and wildlife also pose some unique challenges for suburban outdoorsman.

Rättegången mot rovdjursjägarna är i gång i Lycksele
Jaktprofilen Robert Salomonsson och tre av hans jaktkamrater har åtalats för grovt jaktbrott i samband med års licensjakt på björn.
De fyra jägarna finns på plats i tingsrätten tillsammans med sina advokater. Förhören med jägarna ska enligt tidsplanen inledas i eftermiddag.
Domstolen har avsatt fem dagar för att granska björnjakten och ytterligare tre dagar för ett misstänkt jaktbrott i samband med skyddsjakt på lodjur.
Dragit ut på tiden
Det finns flera skäl till att Doroteaärendet har dragit ut på tiden. Ärendet blev till att börja med liggande hos polisen när jaktbrottsutredare slutade. Det dröjde därefter innan åklagaren lämnade in ett åtal, varpå Lycksele tingsrätt utan egen förskyllan tvingades ställa in förhandlingen både en och två gånger.
Om de fyra björnjägarna fälls kan de – teoretiskt sett – dömas till fängelse i fyra år, vilket är maxstraffet för grovt jaktbrott.
Straffmätningsvärdet för ett brott kan av olika skäl minska. Till exempel om rättsprocessen har dragit ut på tiden. I det här fallet inleds rättegången 1 dagar efter att björnen sköts och polisen inledde en brottsutredning.

UPDATE: Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman confirmed that the victim of the incident at Silver Eagle Group in Ashburn has died.
The woman was seriously injured while at the shooting range at Silver Eagle Group on Guilford Drive in Ashburn Friday evening, according to witnesses who were at the scene.
The incident, said to have occurred around 5 p.m., has not yet been confirmed bygd the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. The acting public information office has not yet responded to a request for resultat, nor has the Loudoun County Department of Fire, Rescue & Emergency Management.

The person who reported the incident, who asked not to be identified, said he had been waiting in line for his turn when the incident occurred.
“People started shouting, ‘Call ! Call !” he said.
