    The Nordic region boasts a collection of pension fund markets that are both substantial in size and noteworthy for their commitment to securing retirement benefits. With Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Iceland at the helm, the Nordic countries collectively hold a position of importance in the global pension landscape.

    In this article the 10 largest pension funds in the Nordics will be examined with their asset allocation if known. But to give some nuance, we give a brief overview of the Nordics pension system. The overview is based on insights conducted by Nordic Co-Operation, a regional intergovernmental organization that facilitates collaboration and coordination among the Nordic countries.

    Pension system Denmark

    With a total assets under management of over € billion, Denmark&#;s pension fund market is relatively one of the biggest in the Nordics according to Exelerating’s database. In Denmark, the pension system offers various types of pensions to its residents. According to Nordic Co-operation the Danish pension system includes the following:

    AP funds (Swedish "AP-forderna") are Swedishpublic sectorpension funds ("Allmänna Pensionsfonder") existing since the s. Having changed in character, number and focus over the years, today there are six funds, which collectively act as buffer funds for the Swedish public pension system as well as state-owned labour-market pension provider (so-called "Pillar 1" and "Pillar 2" pensions, respectively). The purpose of the AP funds is to contribute to Swedish public pensions, smoothing out differences between tax intake and pension payments, and to generate returns for the pensioners in the long term. Together, their assets under management are around trillion Swedish kronor, or billion US dollar, making them collectively one of the biggest pension funds in Europe.

    Individual AP funds[edit]

    • AP1, AP3 and AP4 are based in Stockholm, and invest in stocks, bonds, currencies and alternative investments globally.

      Sjunde AP-fonden (AP7, AP7 Såfa, Soffliggarfonden) är ett svensk statlig myndighet samt en från de svenska AP-fonderna (allmänna pensionsfonderna). AP7 skiljer sig från dem övriga AP-fonderna, de således kallade buffertfonderna Första, andra, Tredje, Fjärde och Sjätte. Detta eftersom AP7 förvaltar premiepensionsmedel mot skillnad ifrån övriga AP-fonder som förvaltar tillgångar inom inkomstpensionen.

      AP7 har sedan premiepensionssystemet infördes haft inom uppdrag för att förvalta premiepensionsmedel för dem personer vilket inte valt att placera dem inom annan fond/fonder på premiepensionstorget. Den 21 maj avvecklades Premiesparfonden samt Premievalsfonden samt ersattes från AP7 Aktiefond och AP7 Räntefond vilket är enstaka aktiefond samt en räntefond. Med dem här numeriskt värde fonderna såsom utgångspunkt kunna AP7 idag erbjuda premiepensionsspararna totalt sex produkter varav AP7 Såfa (Statens årskullsförvaltningsalternativ) är förvalsalternativet.[1]

      Sveriges Riksdag fattade beslut ifall nya riktlinjer för Sjunde AP-fonden likt trädde inom kraft ifrån den 1 januari [2]. Enligt riktlinjerna ska Sjunde AP-fonden förvalta fonder till de ändamål som framgår av bestämmelserna om premiepension i socialför
