The differences between class 1 mopeds (EU mopeds) and class 2 mopeds are many. They have different maximum speeds, they have to drive on different parts of the road and they have to park according to different rules.
How fast can they drive?
Class 1 mopeds have a maximum permitted speed of 45 km/h.
Class 2 mopeds have a maximum permitted speed of 25 km/h.
Where should they drive?
Class 1 mopeds (EU mopeds) should primarily be driven on hard shoulders and secondly on carriageways. Class 1 mopeds must not be driven in public transport lanes (bus lanes), in cycle lanes, on cycle paths or on motorways or clearways.
Class 2 mopeds should primarily be driven on cycle paths, secondly on hard shoulders and thirdly on carriageways. Class 2 mopeds may also be driven in cycle or bus lanes, if these lanes are to the right in the direction of travel. Class 2 mopeds must not be driven on motorways or clearways.
How should they be parked?
Class 1 mopeds must be parked according to the same rules as a car. However, class 1 mopeds may also be parked in parking spaces reserved for motorcycles.
Class 2 mopeds may be parked in the same manner as a cycle.
